Our Strategy

An Holistic Approach to Development !

Thinking Globally, Acting Locally

PIDT is an inclusive learning institution that has a clear understanding of equity and ecology while nurturing and negotiating a better future for the people among who it works. In any situationit has a stance that is at once pro-child, pro-women, pro-green, and pro-poor. PIDT’s programs, firmly grounded in achieving gender equity, focus on the marginalized and the youth so that any initiative undertaken can be harnessed towards a sustainable future.

Though rooted in specific backward regions of North India and grappling with micro grassroots realities, PIDT remains strategically connected to the broader global context and works at advocating for a better enabling environment to fulfil its vision. As one aspect of this effort, PIDT hosts Volunteer India, the National volunteer chapter of the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), a membership based worldwide volunteer organization.

If you show people what is possible
you can create the demand for a better world…

On the ground, PIDT seeks to act as a catalyst among the people, demonstrating the possibility of sustainable, peaceful ways of living. In terms of organizational praxis, PIDT’s vision has meant initiating movements of the people and engaging with them fully, through diverse means and on a broad spectrum of issues as demanded by the local context and the needs and desires of the people themselves. This approach has led PIDT to groundbreaking work in participatory action research and toward an holistic development paradigm that embraces entire communities and the whole lives within them, traversing the modes of intervention traditionally pursued by particular interest groups that prioritize health, education, agricultural reform, economic opportunities, or women’s empowerment. Instead we have collectivized the people and cultivated within them the tools to analyze their situation, the alternatives before them, and the means of pursuing their chosen endeavours in spite of and against resistance.

For PIDT’s staff this has meant a commitment to the people among who we work, to embodying and living the ideals we profess, and to displaying the courage we nurture in the oppressed themselves. Often it has also meant the blurring of personal and professional lives and the challenge of firmly held convictions and confidences. In short, there has been a constant opening of our own minds as well as theirs. So it is in turn, through their guidance, that we have engaged in all the aforementioned development areas, learning with the people as we work alongside them, through experimental action research that is constantly seeking and testing new ways forward and new possibilities for human development.
